Welcome to my chaotic garden journal for Thursday 3/4/10

It turned out to not be such a crappy day today.
I can't wait til this weekends warm up...so I can get my side garden planted and mulched. I have to get all of these foam cups of bulbs out of my kitchen...lol

I'm very excited about the two enormous elephant ear bulbs I found in the bin at Walmart. I searched for the two biggest bulbs...they are massive!
Each has a thick sprout formed at the crown. I hope they are both happy in their new temparary home for the moment.

I only picked out one bag of crap bulbs...and, with the amount of bulbs I picked out...1 out of the bunch isn't so terribly bad.

It's my Commander in Chief asiatic lilies. They sprouted and began to grow in the bag.....I doubt very seriously I'll get any blooms this year.

My oly other concern is my weird looking crocosmia bulbs...I had maybe 2 normal looking ones...then the rest looked like orange rocks...so we will see.

I have to research and find out if Siberian Iris need different treatment than Bearded Iris.....Their foilage looks different....I need to find out!

My excitement for the day was my brugs auction win on Ebay. I won 5 rooted cuttings. The varieties are: sunray, a noid pink, Flamenco, frosty pink, and cypress garden.
Brugs are hella expensive on the bay! lol

I also began measuring for my compost bin to be built this weekend...and the beginnings of my rain barrel system to be placed right next to the compost bin.
The bin is going to be 5 ft by 6 ft.....I am still wrestling with how i'm going to approach the rain barrel system.

Last but not least....I was suprized today by the 10 day forecast. I thought I'd only be able to have the plastic off my SFG beds for three days next week, but if all going according to their forecast..I'll have the whole week with the temps only getting as cold as 39 during that time period.....How very exciting is that?
